No party, political upstart Victoria Provenza, who owned a tech business locally, said, "I have corporate worldwide experience where I have consulted for multiple municipalities across the United States, and the C level suites of the Fortune 50 Corporations spread across the globe."
Victoria Provenza says she is uniquely qualified to handle some of the city's pressing issues. Provenza mentioned her corporate experience and said she has managed superfund sites. "The absolute No. 1 priority in Shreveport is addressing a diminishing tax base that's affecting all of the services in our city," Victoria Provenza said.
Victoria Provenza qualified Friday by a nominating petition with no party affiliation. She currently teaches computer science at Byrd High School. Provenza owned a geographic information systems business in Shreveport, her home town, for more than five years. However, Provenza spent most of her adult life in Colorado where she worked as geologist, and never held a public office.
The Shreveport mayor’s race has just gotten a lot more interesting. The reason? Victoria Provenza, from a well-known Shreveport family, has thrown her hat into the ring – with a lot of gusto.

Highland resident, 53 year-old Victoria Provenza announced her candidacy for Mayor of Shreveport on Sunday, July 6th.
A packed room full of supporters at Mandina’s Grill listened and cheered, as Provenza outlined her qualifications and platform for her mayoral run.
